It is unfortunate that this week's launch of 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children coincided with the brutal killing of a 15-year-old pupil and of a woman in Mpumalanga and Pretoria, respectively.

It is unfortunate that this week's launch of 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children coincided with the brutal killing of a 15-year-old pupil and of a woman in Mpumalanga and Pretoria, respectively.

Nsovo Sambo was raped and stabbed 66 times near Makhasa in Mpumalanga.

In another incident Rashida Ahmed was battered to death in her home in Laudium by armed robbers.

We condemn these gruesome attacks in the strongest terms.

We agree with Deputy Safety and Security Minister Susan Shabangu that those who abuse women and children should be denied bail.

We urge the police to swiftly trace and bring the brutes to book.
