Mogale City municipality has taken a decision to set up an independent investigation into the sexual harassment issue. This decision was taken to allow the complainants space to engage with this matter as well as to make it clear that the municipality's principal interest lies only in the fair and proper resolution of this matter without taking sides.

We have no doubt that this is the only thing that has characterised our approach. We must emphasise that, once it became clear that the complainants had no intention of cooperating with internal processes, contrary to an agreement reached with them, we concluded that perhaps an independent investigation would be more suited for this matter. We would have taken this course of action if the complainants had informed the municipality if they so desired.

A lawyer has been appointed by the municipality to handle the matter. Once again, we urge all involved, including the complainants, to cooperate fully with this investigation. As Albert Einstein once said: "If the facts do not match the theory, change the theory."

The facts confirm that it is not true that the municipality has been dragging its feet or stalling this matter. We urge everyone not to try to change the facts to match their theory.

Bongani Gaeje, Mogale City municipality spokesman
