Platinum Leopards winger Vuyo Zangqa is tipped to win the 2008 Absa Currie Cup First Division player of the year award.

He will vie for the top award with nominees such as Cecil Afrika and Ashley Johnson, both from Griffons, and his teammate Clayton Durand.

The yearly award function will take place at Vodaworld, in Midrand, next Tuesday.

Zangqa, 27, who is from East London, was recruited by the North West rugby side from the Springboks Sevens team in 2006.

Since then he has been a revelation to the team and is regardes a one of the most talented players in the South Aafrican Sevens squad.

Zangqa's courageous performance coupled with good leadership helped his team to win the national playoffs recently and they were promoted to the 2009 Absa Currie Cup Premier Division.

It came as no surprise, therefore when Zangqa, deservedly walked away with the team's player of the year and players' player of the year awards last month.

He was also the team's leading try scorer with 10 tries to his credit last season.
