The director of public prose-cutions in Gauteng has thrown the case of negligent, reckless and drunken driving against soccer legend Doctor Khumalo back to the police for thorough investigation.

Captain Lydia Mtila-Dikolomela confirmed that the docket was handed back to Florida police station.

"The senior prosecutor has instructed the investigating officer to investigate further."

The docket was taken to the Roodepoort magistrate's court yesterday for a decision on whether or not to prosecute.

The 41-year-old former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana player crashed his BMW Z4 into a taxi carrying Maki Slater, Sinah Shongwe and Bongani Baloyi on May 4. Both cars were wrecked.

The taxi driver, Willy Sanyane, escaped with minor injuries.

Police told Sowetan that they had received the results of the blood tests from the laboratory.
