SA to kick up a storm in Japan

A 12-man squad from the Karate Organisation of South Africa (Matsushima) will invade Japan to take part in the Third IKO World Open tournament, at Isesaki City at the end of the month.

The squad will leave for the Land of the Rising Sun on November 26 for the tournament, which starts on November 29 to 30.

Shihan Peter "Poison" Thage said they have selected the cream of the crop and are optimistic the guys will perform well in this world tournament.

The fighters are Tamara Booi, from Ekurhuleni who is well equipped with international experience. She specialises in hand techniques (kihon zukis) where she excels.

Nomonde Magagula, also from Ekurhuleni, is another fighter who excels in good kicks (kihon geris). She won the Karate SA tournament early this year.

In the male section Hendrick Shilubane (Ekurhuleni) is exceptionally good with both punches and kicks (kihon zukis and geris).

Other karateka who will be taking part in this tournament are Charlene Singh (KwaZulu-Natal), Mduduzi Thusi (KZN), Sanjee Singh (KZN), Junior Molose (KZN), S'busiso Nocongo (Eastern Cape), Moosa Ganie (KZN) and Riyaaz Vawela (KZN).
