Boxing trainer Eugene Khanyile has denied that he played a role in fighter Edward Mpofu's use of a hardening agent under his gloves for his fight with Thanduxolo Dyani last month.
He feels the charges against him were fabricated.
"It was plotted. I mean, an official from Boxing SA witnessed our bandaging, and to prove that everything was done by the book, he signed on top of the very bandages," he said.
"He would have blown the whistle, I suppose, even before I finished bandaging my boxer's hands if something was done against the law."
Khanyile was found guilty of negligence while Mpofu was found guilty of using a hardening agent and was banned for life. On Tuesday Khanyile received a 10-year ban or R20000 fine, of which R10000 was suspended for five years.
"I bandaged Mpofu and went inside the Orient Theatre to watch other fights. What happened while I was out remains a mystery to me. But the presiding officer felt I should have checked that everything was the way I left before putting gloves on Mpofu," said Khanyile. "I will pay the fine, get back to what I know best - producing champions.
"I hate to speak about this because it brings sad memories. Look, not only was I humiliated but my family, wife and kids too.
"I am so confident about my innocence that I can go to the court and win this case. I am unhappy but I will take the count, get up and do my job."
Khanyile said Mpofu, 36, will apply for a trainer's licence with Boxing SA and work with his former mentor.
The duo will mastermind the corner of Thomas "Merciless" Mashaba on February 14 when he fights for the IBO junior featherweight belt.
Loyiso Mtya concurred that Khanyile was charged and found guilty of negligence because the commissioner, advocate Kanene Dokolwane could not link him to the crime.
Boxing SA is still waiting for Dolokwane's report. Chairman Peter Ngatane apologised for misinformation regarding Khanyile's charge.
