The government's 2010 World Cup Unit has bought a stall at the 2008 Soccerex to showcase the country's readiness.

Soccerex, an exhibition which will be attended by the who's who of soccer and related businesses in the world, starts in Sandton on November 24.

"We will be participating at the Soccerex and take advantage of the marketing and promotional opportunities presented by the event," said Dan Moyo, the unit's head.

"The purpose of the unit's participation is to show the efforts by the South African government in supporting and preparations for the World Cup.

"With more than 200 sports exhibitors and more then 5 000 people from across the globe attending, we will also use it to update the participants on the state of our readiness.

"Government coordinators directly involved in the World Cup projects will also be there to talk about activities in their own areas," said Moyo.

Avusa Media, owners of the Sowetan newspaper, are media partners of this event, which will also be attended by Fifa president Sepp Blatter.

The Gauteng provincial government has been hosting this yearly event since last year. Barbara Creecy, Gauteng MEC of sports, arts, culture and recreation, said the expo will inject more than R50 million into the economy of the province.

Creecy, Local Organising Committee chief executive Danny Jordaan, Fifa communications boss Hans Klaus and Soccerex chief Duncan Revie will update the media on this year's exhibition in Sandton next Tuesday.

Lucas Radebe, former Bafana Bafana captain, and representatives of Avusa Media will also attend the briefing.
