The fate of the "suspended" vice-chancellor of Mangosuthu University of Technology is in the hands of Education Minister Naledi Pandor.
Aaron Ndlovu was suspended three months ago pending an investigation into the university's employment equity compliance and claims of mismanagement of funds.
The probe also related to Ndlovu's role in all matters under investigation.
Yesterday staff and students told Sowetan that the investigation, undertaken by two independent investigators, had been concluded.
They said the report had been forwarded to the minister's office.
University council chairman Obed Mlaba confirmed that a report was completed but he could not comment on the recommendations.
He also said the matter was an "assessment" not an investigation.
He confirmed that the assessment was concluded a week ago and the report sent to the minister's office.
"On November 19 Pandor is expected to announce her recommendations after having studied the report," he said.
Ndlovu was given compulsory leave in August after the university council took a decision to investigate the management of funds and good governance at the institution.
Mlaba said there were reasons that led to the decision to ask Ndlovu to "step aside while an assessment" was being conducted.
