But living with diabetes in South Africa has never been as easy as it is now. Access to treatment is hassle-free in public and private clinics and there is an abundance of education.

The main focus this year will be on children with diabetes. Most children and teens with diabetes have Type 1 diabetes, but lately there has been an increase of Type 2 diabetes, which is common in adults.

The increase has been attributed to obesity and an inactive lifestyle.
