An overseas company has embarked on a roadshow campaign, using an interactive approach, to communicate with and educate communities about tuberculosis (TB), its spread, treatment and prevention.

The roadshow, which was launched by Health Minister Barbara Hogan earlier this year, was in Mpumalanga this week. It elicited great response from crowds with its high-energy routines.

Sanofi-Aventis, a leading multinational pharmaceutical company, has invested a record R180million in combating TB in South Africa.

The company, with the Nelson Mandela Trust and in partnership with the national Health Department, has created an organisation known as TB Free to coordinate all activities towards achieving its goal.

Sanofi-Aventis spokesman Mpumi Sithole said her company would establish TB Centres of Excellence in all nine provinces to work hand in hand with the provincial health department.
