A fun day is in store for the Ekurhuleni community when this year's edition of the 5km Challenge takes place at Germiston Stadium on Sunday at 7.30am.

Able-bodied participants will be asked to use wheelchairs, crutches and blindfolds to get a feel for what it is like to be disabled.

The race is hosted by We Are Capable (WAC), a non-profit organisation, in conjunction with the Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality. WAC promotes awareness of disabilities in South Africa and highlights the plight and triumphs of the disabled.

Thanduxolo Jindela, the organisation's spokesman, said they raise awareness of disabilities through festivals, fun runs, workshops and publication of the WAC magazine.

"We urge people to come out in large numbers and support the initiative. This event is not for disabled people only but for everyone," Jindela said.

For more information call WAC at (011) 339-3449 during working hours.
