The 36 people who were arrested at the weekend following disruptions of voter registration appeared in separate magistrate's courts in Limpopo yesterday.

The suspects are from Segopje village in the Mankweng area, Khakhanwa in Thulamela and Moutse near Groblersdal.

Senior Superintendent Motlafela Mojapelo said only 13 of the 36 were linked to the crimes.

Electoral officer Nkaro Mateta said a mob in Segopje and Khakhanwa barricaded the streets leading to registration stations and refused to allow people to register "because of lack of basic services".

She said in Moutse, they "torched a voting station on Friday".
