While his family and relatives were in the process of burying his father on Saturday, a 29-year-old Mpumalanga man and his friend went out to look for someone to rob - but lady lucky was not on their side.

Sipho Mnisi and friend Dumisani Mkhwanazi left Mnisi's house during his father's funeral and headed for the N4 near Witbank to look for a motorist to rob.

Armed with a knife and screw driver, the two came across a Pretoria couple whose bakkie had a flat tyre and decided to rob them.

They held the couple at knifepoint but the man managed to reach for his gun inside the vehicle and fired shots at the two, hitting Mnisi twice in the chest. The two ran away but Mnisi collapsed and died as they entered the gate of his home in Lynnville.

The mourners were about to leave for the cemetery to bury Mnisi's father Johannes when Mnisi collapsed at the gate. The funeral proceedings came to a halt as mourners attended to Mnisi. He died minutes before an ambulance arrived.
