Premier defies ANC

In a move seen as defiance of the ANC, Limpopo Premier Sello Moloto has decided he would advertise posts and subsequently appoint senior government officials with or without the approval of the party.

He said this would be done in order to strengthen the provincial government's capacity to deliver on its mandate.

The ANC had taken an unpopular decision to stop the advertising of posts and the appointment of senior government officials until after next year's elections.

It also resolved not to issue tenders that involved huge amounts of money until then.

But Moloto defied all this and resolved that services that had an impact on the state to deliver services must be procured.

Two weeks ago, the ANC provincial executive committee decided that contracts of heads of departments that were coming to an end would not be renewed, and that suitable people would act in those positions until after the elections next year.
