Bloemfontein Celtic knocked SuperSport United out of the Telkom Knockout yesterday, scoring four penalties to United's three.

Gavin Hunt's words proved prophetic, after the United coach had warned his charges about underestimating their opponents.

Three own goals were scored in this game, with the first one coming in the sixth minute off a header by United's Rudi Isaacs.

The hosts were momentarily shell-shocked, but recovered to equalise in the 20th minute, through a Katlego Mashego penalty kick after Kitambala Mubiala pulled Glen Salmon down inside the danger area.

Luck again smiled on Matsatsantsa a Pitori on the stroke of half time as a free-kick taken by Mashego eluded all the United players - and found former Majimbos and Amajita defender Keamogetse Wolff, who slotted the ball home past his own keeper Shu-Aib Walters.

The visitors drew level on the hour mark, through an own goal by Salmon to make it 2-2. United's Brent Carelse was also sent off for a second bookable offence.

Extra time failed to produce goals, with Celtic failing to take advantage of an injured SuperSport goalie Andre Arendse, who was forced to continue playing as United had exhausted their substitution quota.

In the penalty shootout Ricardo Katza, Isaacs and Elias Pelembe made no mistake, while Mashego and Tsietsi Mahoa failed to convert theirs.

Soul Mmethi, Moses Spandeel, Nhlapo and Fischer Kondowe netted to steer Celtic into the semifinals.

The semifinal draw will take place this morning.
