Insurance company Santam, yesterday threw its weight behind Project Golf 2014 and will be the title sponsor countrywide.

This was announced at the launch of this exciting programme at Parkview, where 10 young girls each received certificates for their performances in the sport.

The girls are from Walter Sisulu Primary School at Olivenhout in Pretoria.

The project, which is a deve- lopment initiative of the Women's World Cup of Golf, was established four months ago and has already unearthed more than 600 children all over the country.

Tania Fourie, the chief executive of Women's World Cup of Golf, said Project Golf 2014 will take the country to a higher level. She said their target is to get 2014 girls playing golf competitively in the next seven years.

"The success of projects such as this is entirely dependant on corporate sponsorship. It is thanks to our new sponsors that we can take this project to the next level," she said.

Actress Kimberlin Brown of soapie TheBold and the Beautiful, who is the international ambassador of Project Golf 2014, attended the launch.

"I'm delighted to see this project taking off," she said.

"Golf is a quality sport worldwide and I'm thrilled to see this sport gaining momentum primarily for the young girls in South Africa."
