Sophie Booi was a born entrepreneur who believed in empowering people.

When she opened the Cherbooi beauty clinic in Johannesburg's Parkview, she used it to uplift young people.

She nurtured young women from the township who were interested in beauty therapy and who wanted to start businesses.

She especially helped students from Dube in Soweto as a way of giving back to the community where she grew up. She encouraged young women to own beauty salons to empower themselves.

Born in Dube on June 23 1972 she attended Immaculata Secondary School in Diepkloof.

Her father, Vukile Booi, said she loved people.

"She was a good person," he said. "She went out of her way to make people happy."

Booi is survived by two children. She will be cremated tomorrow. A memorial mass will be held at 11am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in South Hill.
