Isaac Hlatshwayo and Devlin Rodriguez will no longer fight only for the IBF's number one spot in the welterweight division.

But the to fighters, who are rated third and 13th, will also be doing battle for a good cause in a two-pronged tournament aimed at awarding the winner the right to challenge IBF champion Joshua Clottey, while helping the needy.

Promoter Rodney Berman, whose Golden Gloves will present this title eliminator at Emperors Palace on November 17, announced yesterday that some boxing memorabilia will be auctioned during his box-and-dine, and the proceeds will be donated to the United Cerebral Palsy Association of South Africa, which caters for disabled children.

He said tables of 10 are available at between R4500 and R6000, and can be bought through Jeff Ellis at 078-457-3030.

Hlatshwayo and Rodriguez, both with unmarked faces, came face to face yesterday.

Their eagerly awaited 12 rounder pits Nick Durandt against Stan Hoffman. The two guided Hassim Rahman to a stunning fifth round knockout win over Lennox Lewis in South Africa in 2001.

Hoffman manages Rodriguez while Lou Fosco hones his skills.

Hoffman described Rodriguez as a "beautifully developed fighter" and said it was time for him to step up.

But Durandt warned the two elderly gentlemen that his charge was no stepping stone for the Dominican Republic's rising star.

"They say Isaac faces the devil but tell them that the Angel will send him to hell," he said.

His words did not go down well with Hoffman. But he chose not to respond.
