It was like the titanic battle between David and Goliath when pandemonium broke out at a busy shopping complex in Thulamahashe, Mpumalanga.

Afternoon shoppers were sent running for cover yesterday as a big fight ensued between canine and bovine.

The black bull was struggling to free itself from the tenacious jaws of the white pit bull terrier fighting as if possessed.

Even security guards at the shopping complex near Bushbuckridge had to lock themselves inside the sentry rooms.

The dog's teeth were apparently stuck in the nostrils of the hapless bull that kicked at anything in the way as it bulldozed its way into Shoeworld at the shopping complex. The bull groaned with pain and bled profusely.

A guard, Vusi Shabangu, said he thought the bull was struggling to rid itself of an inanimate object covering its head, but ran for his life when he realised it was a real dog.

"The bull rammed into walls, hitting shelves and scattering groceries."

He said the fight lasted almost four hours until police were called in.

"The dog eventually fell off the nose of the bull as it shook it around in its struggle for freedom. Shop windows were not spared as the bull continued to shake itself off the pit bull," said Shabangu.

Nomsa Ngomane, a manager at the shopping centre, said the damage at the shop could be about R2000.
