I had a good laugh when reading your article, "First win in six years", on page 18 of Monday's Sports Voltage.

It made me realise what a great people we are as South Africans. We take ourselves too seriously in that we see ourselves as losers if we do not achieve great heights in the Fifa rankings. In all that we tend to forget that even if we could be ranked number 71 in the world, there are over a hundred other countries way below us.

I refer specifically to East Timor, which I heard about for the first time from this article.

I must commend the spirit of East Timor's captain when he said: "We cannot see our first win coming in the next few years but we will never quit."

This highlights the fact that no matter how bad we may think we are, there are worse situations out there and we must just be thankful to the Almighty for all we have achieved.
