A woman from Giyani whose ID suggests that she is eleven years older than her eldest child is angry with the department of Home Affairs.
The error is making Mthavini Chabalala's life hell as she is unable to access the old age pension grant.
According to the ID number, Chabalala is only nine years older than her first-born daughter.
The ID, which she obtained in 1994, reflects that she was born on August 20, 1952 while her daughter, Maria Makamu, was supposedly born on January 2, 1963. Chabalala says she was born on August 2, 1944.
Since the issuing of her ID, Chabalala said she had visited the Home Affairs offices several times to correct the error, but to no avail.
She claims she has submitted at least five applications for a new ID, but none came back with the correct information.
"Each time I asked them about my ID they said they were on top of things and that I would soon get my document," said Chabalala.
"I have lost hope of ever getting help from these people."
Chabalala said a correct ID would enable her to qualify for her old age pension, food parcels and an RDP house.
Sam Moremi from the department said they would investigate the matter.
