Del Piero stuns Real again

Manchester United rescued a late point with a Ryan Giggs header in a 1-1 draw with Celtic in their Champions League Group E clash in Glasgow last night.

Scott McDonald lobbed an exquisite opener for Celtic's first goal in the group after 13 minutes when he fastened onto a headed knockdown by Gary Caldwell and left goalkeeper Ben Foster stranded.

Celtic appeared to be holding firm during a second-half onslaught from United until six minutes from the end when Cristiano Ronaldo forced a fine save from Artur Boruc but Giggs was on hand to head home the rebound.

United and Villarreal, who drew 2-2 at Aab Aalborg last night, top the group on eight points with two rounds of matches remaining.

In Madrid, Alessandro Del Piero scored two stunning goals to give Juventus a 2-0 win over Real Madrid and put the Italians through to the Champions League knockout stage.

The World Cup-winning striker grabbed the opener in the 2-1 win over Real in Turin two weeks ago and repeated the feat after 17 minutes last night, crashing a left-foot shot past Iker Casillas.

Del Piero's second came from a direct free kick on 67 minutes.

Meanwhile, Arsenal's hopes of securing an early place in the last 16 of the Champions League ended in frustration as Group G's bottom club Fenerbahce clung on for a 0-0 draw at the Emirates.

Other results: Porto 2, Dynamo Kiev 1; Fiorentina 1, Bayern Munich 1; Borisov 0, Zenit St Petersburg 0; Olympique Lyon 2, Steaua Bucharest 0. - Reuters
