Arty centre brings out the schmoozer in you

Quick question - why do so many malls have a preposterously fake Tuscan design?

Are they trying to con us into spending more money by making us feel as though we are in Milan, the capital of fashion debauchery?

Rising from the ashes to confront this unnecessary convention is the refreshing 44 Stanley Avenue with its bare cement floors.

It's being billed as an anti-mall.

And it's the place where you can schmooze with the beautiful people as you sip languidly on your skinny cappuccino from delicious eatery Salvation Cafe.

There's the equally delicious sandwich cafe, Boat, known for the best toasted rolls in town.

Brian Green has resurrected cement from the graveyards of communist design and created a haven where you can celebrate your arty side.

You are invited to enjoy the eclectic ensemble of stores all in one spot that you would struggle to find elsewhere.

The convenience of having a one-stop arty shop experience is wonderful.

Since the first store opened in September 2003, 44 Stanley Avenue has become the destination with a difference.

A dilapidated, abandoned cluster of workshops and garages has been transformed into a space filled with restaurants, art galleries and offices and shops ranging from designer clothing stores, furniture and vintage stores, a flower shop, toy store and night spot.
