Sad excuse

It is lamentable that almost 15 years into our democracy there are still children who are computer illiterate because of a lack of resources.

It is lamentable that almost 15 years into our democracy there are still children who are computer illiterate because of a lack of resources.

A consequence of this is that the children face a bleak future when they go to university or look for a job.

One school with no computer-based subjects because of a lack of equipment is Musupatsela High in Kagiso, on the West Rand.

The school now plans to install 40 computers for 414 pupils next year. Obviously too little too late, though a commendable effort towards redressing the situation.

The excuse of education authorities that the biggest obstacle to installing computers at township schools is theft simply does not hold water.
