Cosas Gauteng chairman Percy Ntsolo said the body had confidence in this year's matriculants, despite the disadvantages of overcrowded classrooms and lack of libraries and laboratories.

"We encourage pupils to dedicate themselves to achieving an 80 percent pass rate," he said.

Cosas acting president Goodman Nkungu expressed disappointment with the department for failing to deal with safety in schools.
