Bonolo Ramphomane, a former volleyball player who started playing the sport at 13 in Norway, is one of the South African greats gradually moving into administration.

The articulate Ramphomane has been nominated to serve on the new executive committee of Volleyball South Africa (VSA).

The elections will take place on November 29 where Nthebe Molope looks set to defeat incumbent Turby Reddy for the position of president.

A Sowetan who graduated in human movement studies at the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan University, Ramphomane has been nominated to serve as women and sports director.

She has captained the South African national women's volleyball team and also represented University Sports South Africa (then South African Student Sports Union) at two World Student Games in 2003 and 2005.

Ramphomane, who is challenged by Gariya de Long for the position, could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.

Molope and Reddy have accepted nominations for the position of president. The battle for the top position is expected to be a bitter one indeed.

Reddy, who also works for the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) as chief operations officer, has been president of VSA since its formation in 1994.

Molope, a director of development in the Gauteng department of sports, arts, culture and recreation, was elected VSA deputy president since 2004.

Anthony Mokoena is the only nominee for the position of deputy president.
