The African Christian Democratic Party has praised former ANC chairman Mosiuoa Lekota and former Gauteng premier Mbhazima Shilowa for staging the national convention.

ACDP president Kenneth Meshoe said the national convention raised hopes for the health of multiparty democracy in South Africa.

"Our experience at the national convention has been great and raises hopes for the future vibrancy of multiparty democracy," Meshoe said.

"It was refreshing to see the discipline of the thousands of delegates and the respect they accorded all the political parties represented.

"Factionalism and political intolerance were markedly absent.

"The jovial mood and a firm determination to confront problems facing our nation and build a safe South Africa is something I will treasure for a long time," Meshoe said, adding that his party was fully committed to constitutionalism.
