Few would deny that media freedom enjoys unanimous support from all - until it shines its spotlight on some among us.

Few would deny that media freedom enjoys unanimous support from all - until it shines its spotlight on some among us.

Interestingly, threats to media freedom sometimes come from such unlikely quarter as the citizenry, an irony given media's traditional role as watchdog for society.

Against this background, this newspaper condemns threats made against our reporter, Cecil Motsepe, by members of the Damoyi family for writing a story they perceive as blighting their late daughter Lehlohonolo.

While we reassert the newspaper's prerogative to publish, we also acknowledge the family's right to pursue proper channels to seek redress.
