Inspector Michael Read said a 26-year-old man walked into Willem Boshoff's Glenashley home at 7pm on Wednesday. The door was apparently open.

"He took R420 from a drawer and then walked to the garage in the backyard. Boshoff heard noises and went to investigate.

"Boshoff was assaulted by the suspect with a garden tool. He then opened fire on the robber," Read said.

The suspect was shot twice in the abdomen. He was taken to a local hospital under police guard.
