A dedicated cadre, Stephen Sello Matlou spent his last days ploughing back into the community.

Matlou was the co-founder of the Itsoseng Agricultural Project which helped fight poverty.

He was known for his love of music and after retiring he founded and performed with two choirs.

His son Lloyd paid tribute to him: "My father fought for freedom and taught us to respect it and respect everyone."

His friend on Robben Island, Molefe Mabuse, said that Matlou was dedicated and fought the apartheid government even from behind prison bars.

He is survived by his son, three daughters and five grandchildren. Matlou will be buried tomorrow in Madidi Village in North West province.
