Award-winning maskandi singer Thokozani Langa has flown to Spain to perform at the World Music Expo (Womex), the world's largest music trade fair.

"Going to Spain is an honour because it was a personal invitation," Langa said.

"The trip signals growth in my career as a singer. It is a big achievement for me."

Bigboy Mlangeni of Bula Music has confirmed that the maskandi singer has gone to Spain.

"We hope this international invitation will really open doors for him to the international scene."

It's been a good year for Langa, who is one of the fastest-selling maskandi singers at the moment.

His latest album, Wawuthini, released in June, has sold more than 60000 copies and he also won a South African Music Award in May.

The international exhibition, which is exclusively dedicated to world, roots, folk, ethnic, traditional and local music of all kinds, opened yesterday and ends on Sunday.

Langa returns to Mzansi on Monday.
