Gauteng MEC for education Angie Motshekga has ordered that the Grade R pupil who was suspended for kicking a teacher return to class.

Motshekga sent out the directive after dispatching a task team to investigate what had prompted the school to suspend the six-year-old pupil.

Department spokesman Panyaza Lesufi said the preliminary report revealed that both the boy's parents and the school authorities had different versions of what had happened.

"The school denied the Grade R pupil was suspended and his parents were telling a different story. After evaluating the report the MEC decided that the child should go back to school regardless of whether the school needs a psychological report or not. No child can be denied education in this country. It is the boy's constitutional right to be in school," said Lesufi

The Robertsham Primary School pupil was suspended on September 18 after he had allegedly kicked two teachers in separate incidents.
