The Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and local and international soloists under the guidance of Richard Cock will perform a unique selection of popular songs, arias, overtures and choruses at a benefit gala sponsored by the Stonehage Charitable Trust.
The event will take place at the Spier Amphitheatre on November 6.
Soloists include soprano Pretty Yende, tenor Given Nkosi, tenor Bonaventura Bottone from England, soprano Anna Skibinsky from the US and baritone Colin Schachat from Israel.
Popular songs such as La Donna è mobile from Rigoletto and Brindisi (Libiamo) from La Traviata by Verdi, Stars from Les Misérables by Schonberg, Summertime from Porgy and Bess by Gershwin and the Hallelujah Medley by Michie are among the highlights that are to be performed.
The trust supports the development of music in Western Cape by providing opportunities to disadvantaged youths through the outreach activities of the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
It also provides a scholarship linked to the Stellenbosch University department of music.
Proceeds of the evening will be donated to these organisations.
The trust was set up by the Stonehage Group as the primary vehicle to implement its philanthropic mission, in recognition of a moral and social responsibility, to reinvest resources in the communities it serves.
