Hollywood veteran Kirk Douglas has been honoured for his humanitarian work at a ceremony in Los Angeles.

Hollywood veteran Kirk Douglas has been honoured for his humanitarian work at a ceremony in Los Angeles.

The actor was told he had "saved many lives" by pal Steven Spielberg at the Shoah Foundation's Ambassadors for Humanity event last week.

Douglas and his wife Anne have funded the construction of 400 playgrounds at LA's schools.

Spielberg said: "Douglas has saved many lives through his humanitarian contributions to the planet.

"We're here to show how closely attuned Douglas is to our work and vision." - Wenn
