David Radebe shook off the groin injury ailing him all week to help Moroka Swallows to a 2-0 victory against Bidvest Wits at Olympia Stadium yesterday.
Orders from the Swallows bench were probably that they go for broke from the earliest possible moment during this Telkom Knockout game. They launched their attacks almost at will, with Radebe and Phumelele "Ace" Bhengu playing a big part in the onslaught.
They were, however, unable to make use of those chances until the second half, when in the 56th minute the ball fell for Radebe after a goal mouth scramble. The former Kaizer Chiefs and Wits player was there to blast the ball past Energy Murambandoro and put the Birds ahead.
Wits did not look like the all-conquering side they have been in the league, and their most dangerous attempt at goal only came in the 38th minute, when Marawaan Bantam's free kick was spectacularly saved by goalie Greg Etafia.
In the second half, The Students still could not unlock the Swallows defence, and when the normally efficient Sifiso Myeni's run in the 58th minute ended with him getting dispossessed by James Mayinga, it showed how well-prepared Swallows had been for them.
To cement the sweet win, Mark Haskins scored the Beautiful Birds' second goal in the 91st minute after a fine individual effort.
