While Golden Gloves Promotions (GGP) is crumbling, the direct opposite is happening to rival promoters Branco Sports Production (BSP).

One of South Africa's top fighters, IBO bantamweight holder Silence "Real Deal" Mabuza, has left the Golden Gloves stable of Rodney Berman and teamed up with the growing BSP of Branco Milenkovic.

Mabuza, 31, the charismatic, smart pugilist from Tsakane in Ekurhuleni, who has been with GGP since 2001, signed a two-year contract with Milenkovic.

"It has been good up until the point when I realised that I was not going anywhere with them. I cannot afford a situation where my fights are always cancelled.

"I was supposed to defend in Australia and that did not happen. I was then told that I will defend on November 17 but I am no longer in that bill. Why? Simply because nobody cares," said the dexterous fighter who last fought in May when he stopped Damian David Marchiano in five rounds.

"I cannot live like this. I have got bills to pay, family to support, dreams as a fighter to fulfill and, most importantly, a life to live."

Milenkovic, who has been giving Berman a run for his money in terms of staging big championship fights here and abroad, said he was assured that there is no contract between Mabuza and Golden Gloves.

"Obviously Mabuza has confidence in me regarding the route to fame and fortune. The promises made to him were never delivered, such as a crack at the IBF belt which is held by Ghanaian Joseph Agbeko as well as WBO holder Gary Penalosa," he said.

Other boxers who defected from GGP to BSP are WBC International featherweight and current IBF mandatory challenger Jeffrey Mathebula, top rated IBF junior featherweight contender Malcolm Klassen, SA middleweight champion Peter Mashamaite, Phumzile Matyhila and Botswana lightweight sensation Kgotla Baeti.

Terry Pettifer of GGP said: "I wish him [Mabuza] well.

"It is understandable for him to go to another promoter considering the huge number of fighters we have. I have no doubt in my mind that he will become a great champion because he is a wonderful boxer."
