most beautiful girls on show
It's that time of the year when the most beautiful women in the land step forward to ask the country who the fairest of them is.
Contrary to popular belief that beauty does not necessarily go with brains, Miss South Africa has proved that the two can beautifully complement each other, as the former queens have shown.
It was with this in mind that 12 finalists comprising some of the most beautiful and intelligent women were unveiled at the Urban Brew Studios in Johannesburg yesterday.
Set to bring drama to the catwalks, the girls will show off what their mamas gave them when they strut their stuff at the annual Miss South Africa pageant at the Sun City Superbowl on December 15.
The razzmatazz at Urban Brew was big. And if the Oscars' red carpet was anything to go by - long mermaid shape red gowns ruled the Oscars - accentuating body shapes will make a statement. Purple and yellow also featured. It was less about the cleavage and more about long willowy backless ball gowns.
If you thought you missed out, this year's Miss SA pageant is tipped to take on a new look, combining a catwalk or couture meets pageant feel. The finalists will be wearing high fashion garments created by some of South Africa's best designers, including Thula Sindi, Malcolm Klûk CGDT, Gerrit Pienaar, Charlene Sauerman, Marc & Michael, Colleen Eitzen and Leigh Schubert.
Global fashion trends show a tendency to one-shouldered ensembles, transparent fabrics and soft sculptured draping.
The design emphasis is on the waist and hips; it's all very glamorous, modern and celebrates femininity. These designers have put together collections to impress the audience and showcase the Miss SA finalists.
