The National Promoters Association has reported that their annual general meeting at Mdantsane Hotel in East London was a huge success.

Mxolisi Gumede said issues were discussed robustly. Eyethu Boxing Promotions chief Mzimase Mnguni retained his position as chairman and Korda Manqina of Peoples Promotions was retained as deputy chairman.

Ayanda Matiti of Xaba Promotions was elected secretary, replacing Bongani Zulu. Free State promoter Fezile Mabuya retained the position of treasurer while Lebo Mahoko of Dream Team Promotions was elected assistant treasurer.

Simphiwe Mtshala of Gabs Promotion and Blacky Seoe of Robs Promotions were elected as additional members of the politburo.

Gumede, who promotes under Ethembeni Promotions, said issues they dealt with included the granting of television dates by the SABC and Boxing SA's promotion of fights.

"It was agreed that the SABC's process of giving a chunk of dates to preferred promoters with the rest being applied for on an ad hoc basis must go to the rubbish bin," he said.

"Boxing SA must cease to promote boxing matches. Their duty is to administer."

Gumede said the Gauteng Promoters Association will hold a special general meeting next Sunday at the Braamfontein Recreational Centre in Johannesburg at 10am.
