SASCOC TO ELECT NEW EXECUTIVES

South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) will elect a new executive committee at its quadrennial general meeting in Johannesburg on November 22.

South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) will elect a new executive committee at its quadrennial general meeting in Johannesburg on November 22.

The deadline for the nominations closed yesterday and Sascoc is expected to release the names of the nominees today.

Incumbent president Moss Mashishi is standing for re-election but should expect stiff opposition from Athletics SA's boss Leonard Chuene.

The Department of Sport resolved at its national sport indaba in Durban two weeks ago to postpone the elections to next year, thus allowing the amendment of the Sascoc constitution.

But insiders have told Sowetan that Mashishi, who could not be reached yesterday, said the elections were going ahead as scheduled. - Mcelwa Nchabeleng
