Police around the country are doubling their efforts to make this year's festive season a peaceful one, the police said yesterday.

Police around the country are doubling their efforts to make this year's festive season a peaceful one, the police said yesterday.

Police spokesman Director Phuti Setati said the police would be joining forces with government and other sectors to fight crimes such as armed robberies, illegal border crossings, firearm offences and gender-based violence.

"We are going to use our experience from the previous festive season to deploy experienced members at strategic points in the country," Setati said.

He said the operation would be supported by the police's air wing, national intervention unit and special task force.

"Preventing robberies at small businesses such as spaza shops, for example, is a challenge," he said. - Sapa
