The police have launched a manhunt for eight men who made off with R100000 in cash in an armed robbery at Umbilo in Durban on Monday night.

Police spokesman Inspector Michael Reed said the men held up a security guard at gunpoint at a distributing company.

"The armed men confronted a guard at CMF Distributors in Umbilo and forced him to open a gate to the building," Reed said.

"They robbed the company of R100000 in cash, two computers, a laptop and cellphone and fled on foot."

Reed said no one was injured during the incident and the police were still investigating.

Also on Monday, in a separate incident, six men robbed the Asmal Clothing Store in Verulam of R2500 in cash.

Captain Mandla Khumalo said the suspects, aged between 22 and 26, confronted the cashiers at the store and demanded cash.

"The gunmen forced the cashiers to open the safes," Khumalo said. "They removed all the cash and locked the cashiers in the change rooms before fleeing."
