It's all systems go in KwaZulu-Natal for this year's national senior certificate examination for 152341 pupils.
It will be the first time that the exams take place under the outcomes-based education (OBE) curriculum.
The exams start on October 29 and end on December 3.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for education Ina Cronjé said this year's pupils were the first group to write the OBE exams and therefore had no previous exam papers to refer to for revision.
To address this, the department had prepared revision supplements such as the study mate programme that was distributed at all schools in the province.
"These revision supplements consist of the type of questions likely to come out in the final examination papers.
"The department is confident that the candidates will be able to handle the exams, judging from the outcome of the trial tests," Cronjé said.
She said the pupils also wrote similar trial examination papers to ensure that the standard was equal at all schools.
"This initiative was introduced to achieve a uniform standard and for every pupil to be at the same level and ready for the final paper."
As a security measure against breaches and possible leaks, the question papers would be delivered to schools on the morning of the examination.
In the event of leaks the national department had back-up papers already set, Cronjé said.
In the case of a situation beyond their control, such as a natural disaster, each district had off-road vehicles to deliver question papers in difficult terrain, and a helicopter would be on standby should the need arise.
