The postponement of the Annanias Mathe case in the Johannesburg high court yesterday was to allow the legal aid board to make a decision about his fees, his legal representative said.

The postponement of the Annanias Mathe case in the Johannesburg high court yesterday was to allow the legal aid board to make a decision about his fees, his legal representative said.

Advocate Liz Serrao said the trial was postponed to November 4 so that the board could take a decision on negotiations regarding legal fees.

She said that it was previously understood that the board's chief executive officer would take the decision but instead a specific committee had to decide on the matter.

The committee was expected to sit on October 30.

She said she had been in court and denied a report that Mathe's representative had not been in court.

Serrao said she had been Mathe's counsel from the beginning of the case.

Mathe faces 77 charges including rape, attempted murder, cruelty to animals and housebreaking. - Sapa
