The ANC Youth League has come out in support of resolutions passed at the ANC- SACP-Cosatu alliance summit held at the weekend.

Resolutions passed at the three-day summit included the establishment of a "planning commission that will coordinate government's plans on economic development and service delivery".

ANCYL spokesman Floyd Shivambu said yesterday the league supported the establishment of a planning commission as proposed by the summit.

"The ANCYL welcomes and unreservedly supports the increased and enhanced capacity of planning, monitoring and evaluation in government, including the establishment of a planning commission," he said.

Shivambu added that the league also supported the resolution that black economic empowerment should be subject to industrial policy objectives.

This means that black economic empowerment should not only be about enriching a few black people but should also be driven by the need to invest in job-creating sectors.

Shivambu said the ANCYL would mobilise young people to gain skills, knowledge and expertise to contribute to the country's development and growth.

However United Democratic Movement leader Bantu Holomisa dismissed as "pre-election rhetoric" promises by the ANC and its alliance partners to adopt pro-poor policies.

Holomisa, who suggested that all parties be given a platform to make an input on what policies the country should adopt to fight poverty and unemployment, criticised the ANC for creating confusion over future policies.

"President Motlanthe is quoted in weekend papers as assuring international investors that no dramatic changes in policy will happen. Zuma is on his way to his masters in America where he will sing the same tune.
