As was expected, Durbanite Sanele Madlala, pictured, has been elected new president of the University Sport South Africa (USSA).

USSA is a new student sports governing body that was formed following the disbanding of the South African Student Sports Union (Sassu).

The hard working Madlala took over from Glen Bentley, who is a former South African cross-country and 10km runner.

"It is an honour to lead such a big organisation, which is renowned for producing the best leaders and athletes across the spectrum.

"Athletes like Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, Hezekiel Sepeng, Llewellyn Herbert and Frantz Kruger used our competitions to announce their arrival on the global front," said Madlala, a post-graduate leadership and management student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Madlala said he would hold meeting with various stakeholders to discuss the vision of the new executive committee.
