A police inspector has been arrested after he was "positively" linked to a burglary and theft that took place in Senwabarwana last month.

The 39-year-old officer was arrested on Friday night at his home in the area. He will appear in court today.

Police spokesman Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said a police reservist and a security guard were also arrested following the break-in at Boxers' Store on September 6.

The thieves forced open the safe and fled with a large undisclosed amount of money.

Ramatseba yesterday said: "Following intensive investigations by our members, information led to the arrest of a police inspector based in Senwabarwana.

He said one of the arrested suspects allegedly made a confession implicating the cop.

"It is a shame for our members to engage in crime when they should be protecting people against criminal activities.

"We just hope the law will deal harshly with our members who continue to embarrass us."
