Council in deadlock over suspensions

Attempts to put an end to the impasse over the failure to suspend two officials in the beleaguered Molemole municipality in Limpopo hit a brick wall yesterday.

This came after the meeting between management and members of the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu), aimed at pleading with mayor, Monica Mohale, yielded no fruits yesterday.

Mohale was instructed by the council to suspend municipal manager Sudan Lethole and corporate services manager Isaac Mogashoa on September 30.

Yesterday Mohale allegedly said she was still consultating with MEC for local government and housing Maite NkoanaMashobane about whether the decision to suspend the two was an informed one.

Lethole was accused of mishandling the forensic audit report on the dismissal of three council officials in June.

Mogashoa's suspension relates to R190000 for a strategic planning session that was held in Louis Trichardt in January.

It is alleged that there were irregularities in the amount paid to a service provider during the session.
