Tshakhuma Athletics Club (TAC's) main aim with its inaugural Bergvlam 10km race is to develop and promote athletics.

The race will be held on October 25 in Thohoyandou. It will start from Bergvlam at 7am and move through Makwarela and Mpaleni before returning to Bergvlam for the finish.

Boldwin Masutha, the club's trainer and coach told Sowetan yesterday that this race will mark the beginning of an athletics talent search in the Vhembe district.

"We are trying to build a strong club and hope that we will one day produce national materials to represent the country internationally. We are calling on athletes to register from now," said Masutha.

The race forms part of preparations for the Soweto Nedbank Marathon scheduled for November 2.

The categories include sub-juniors, juniors, seniors, veterans, masters and grand masters.
