Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp is back in Ghana after joining AshantiGold Football Club as the new technical director.

The German coach is popularly known as "Mazinyo.Com" in South African soccer circles.

It was widely expected that Middendorp would join the mining club after his friend, Herbert Mensah, was appointed head coach.

Middendorp is in West Africa after a five-year absence, two years of which were spent at Amakhosi before he was fired after a string of poor results.

Subsequent to that, he joined Armenia Bielefeld in Germany where he was also dismissed after almost two seasons in charge.

In Germany, he coached South African internationals such as Sibusiso Zuma, Siyabonga Nkosi and Rowen Fernandez.

Zuma has since joined Mamelodi Sundowns.

Middendorp worked in Ghana between 2000 and 2004 where he guided the local giants, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

Attempts to get a comment from Middendorp were unsuccessful.
