The six-year-old boy who was suspended from school for allegedly kicking a teacher won an award last year for being a model pupil.
He was crowned Mr Siyakhula Day Care Centre because of his good behaviour and participation in class.
His former school said they were shocked to learn that the Grade R pupil had assaulted two teachers at his new school, Robertsham Primary School.
Eunice Khuzwayo, owner and teacher at the centre in Senaoane, Soweto, described him as a friendly boy who loved to play games with his friends.
"I am shocked by his behaviour. Not once did he raise his hand at his peers or teachers while he was still with us.
"The boy always had a smile on his face and enjoyed playing games and participating in class activities like painting and reading," said Khuzwayo.
The Grade R pupil, who attended Siyakhula for three years, was suspended from his current school on September 18 after he allegedly assaulted two teachers on two different occasions. He allegedly kicked both teachers on the shin, leaving them with bruises.
The latest incident happened after he allegedly failed to do what was required of him by his teacher. His classmates are said to have laughed at him and he stormed out of the class.
His teacher followed him outside and questioned him about his behaviour. That was when he responded by kicking her on the shin, leading to his suspension.
Gauteng education spokesman Panyaza Lesufi said a team was dispatched to the school yesterday to investigate the matter.
"It is the first time we have had a case like this. We therefore need to await a full report from the task team before taking any action.
"The assaulted teachers will also have to give us medical reports showing that they sustained bruises," Lesufi said.
While all this process takes place, the Grade R pupil is not at school because he has not been assessed by a psychologist yet. The child and family unit of the social development department, where the mother was referred to by the school, has a long waiting list and the next available date is next month.
Now the 6-year-old's mother is worried that her son will fail this year.
"Time is running out for my son. If he does not return to school soon he may not be able to catch up and will have to repeat Grade R next year.
"I am afraid that sending him to another school now will confuse him even further," said the mother.
